Use Toornament

Post by jarik » 04 Apr 2017, 09:07

Hi,

I was thinking should we try to use Toornament (https://www.toornament.com/ / https://vimeo.com/140041556) for keeping game info visible online?

Minus sides:
- You would need to manually enter game info, so copy ID from match report view to Toornament page https://blog.toornament.com/2015/11/blo ... oornament/
- I think everyone would need Toornament accounts (I don't think there is any automatic way to get info and if it is not everyone then it is just JRCO doing everything)

Plus sides:
+ We get situation info much more clearly visible online
+ Info is there and Toornament has quite good API so can do extra stuff on top of it

Of course we could use Toornament so that someone just enters match results there and we display widget on webpage, but that wouldn't give the detailed info on games.

Hi Jarik,

I just created an account, and i think that's a cool idea !
I'm not sure how Toornament works with BB2 : the website collect informations, and the list of games is imported into Toornament website for a clearly display on website, right ?
That would free JRCO from lot of works about updating each new week with results and new classement.
We could also have a video replay of each game if i understand correctly, without launching game.

Edit : There is one HUGE reason why we should use that :D

Someone has to input game data into Toornament. Haven't yet checked out how access management works but I inserted all results for week 1. There is field for game id which you should see in end game page inside the game. Haven't paid attention if that is actually visible somewhere.

So far I have seen one problem. I setup competition with 2 groups and play-offs, so structure is ok. Placed teams into groups so that their week 1 opponent would be correct, but now week 2 opponents are incorrect. So as Toornament doesn't get that information from the game BB2 and Toornament would need to use same logic to calculate schedule, but at least with my config they don't.

They emailed and asked how things are going with my first tournament. I think it is time to get some support :D

They seem to be reactive, good point ^^
That was my asking, if week schedule were automatically imported on website, or if BB2 and website had their own "logic" about matchmaking inside a group. Maybe there is an option or a thing like that.

Currently I don't think there is any way to use Toornament and in-game competition with group stage as there is only API for loading single game data from BB2. Toornament and BB2 seem to use different logic for creating match schedule and there isn't way to setup that manually. So only way would be to not use in-game competitions at all, which I don't think is good option either.

But for different competition structures it could work. Only problem is that other structures mean that some teams will drop out quite early in competition and that is not good.

I have found way we can use Toornament, just need to do one small advanced config thingy. :D

So for next season I suggest we use that. I will try to do some documentation how and what we should do to get our games there. I think I should go create some Twitter accounts for our commentators who will be commenting on results
